Origins-Important-Principles-of-the-Esoteric-Philosophy-Class-4
Welcome Friends to at home with theosophy uh we are exploring this book D Cosmos and Man by Jeffrey faring uh so today we are going to go on with another chapter of the book I have today with me Michelle that is going to help me with the the reading so let us start the first uh the the subject for today is about how the universe originates how it begins Origins it is time to look at the question of Origins when the almost unbelievable diversity of living things when the order complexity the design and form esoteric science speaks both of the exteral Eternal World perceived by the senses the phenomenal world of form color and sound and also the inner Realms of feeling thought power and force of the Numa behind the phenomena in science there is this uh investigation going on trying to understand how the cosmos was generated from the only realm that is available to science which is what we call the physical plane science depends on the Machinery that technology can develop so that through these machines we can measure like the background microwave radiation or or the or light or the subatomic particles and whatever science cannot measure is beyond the realm of science so the the field of science expands as technology expands too but in the theosophical view there are other dimensions of the to the universe that are not physical therefore they cannot be measured by physical means in science currently there is this idea of the Dark Matter dark energy they call it dark because it cannot be measured they can see that there has to be an energy there for example that they cannot measure with with with the technology we have available because the universe is expanding faster than it should if the amount of energy in the universe was whatever they they they were able to measure same thing with and dark matter they see that gravity in Works in some places of the universe in a different way that it should if there was the amount of mass that they can measure so they say there has to be some other energy there has to be some other um matter there that we cannot measure whether that is true or is just that the the theories and the equations that science use are defective um it is it is a possibility that what they are seeing is the effect of some other subtler aspects of the universe but we will see a science advances so in religions in early philosophies through myths through stories there was always an attempt to account for the the creation of the cosmos not only from the physical point of view but also from a spiritual perspective normally this account tended to be more as I said mythological in the form of a story with the theosophical society there was an attempt at presenting this subject from a more scientific point of view not scientific in the in the limited sense of the word uh but scientific in the sense of trying to offer a rational explanation with some some kind of mechanism to to explain this so this is what we are going to see today how the universe is generated not So Much from the point of view of the phenomena the word phenomena means whatever uh can be perceived by our senses how things appear to us but more from the point of view of the Numa this comes from a Greek word word that means the cause of the appearances there are certain general principles that pertain to the total process one the universality of law two the process of evolution as becoming from within outwards and three the alternation of phases of activity and phases of rest the first point the univers universality of the law is a very important point which has been discovered already by science the idea here is that laws act in the same way everywhere in the universe uh in modern science the first person or one of the first people to try to understand the universe from from this point of view was Newton Newton at the time of Newton people thought that the laws that were ruling the celestial bodies the heavenly bodies like the the moon the stars Etc were different laws that the ones that applied to the Earth so they thought that the moon didn't fall just because it was made of a matter that didn't have that quality of falling and one of his great insights Newton's great insights is to be able to explain the motion of the heavenly bodies with the same loss that we see here on Earth so just as an apple Falls the same law of gravity can explain why the the moon orbits around the the Earth without falling so he generated this idea of universality of law later on Einstein did the same the theory of relativity is based on this same idea that the laws of physics uh have the or acting the same way everywhere in the universe and when you apply this to this idea to how the the the cosmos develops you can come up with the theory of relativity or that's what Einstein uh did so this question of the universality of the law has uh very important implications now we are not going to to examine this particular Concept in the context of of the theosophical teachings today because that's not the subject and what Jeffrey Farin is going to to do is to begin by examining the second idea the process of evolution this becoming from within outward that we can call the manifestation of the universe manifestation the second of these principles is particularly relevant to the question of Origins the cosmos is projected from the nual or subjective states of being into the phenomenal or objective planes so the main idea here is that the Universe develops from within outwards meaning that what whatever this of course it's a it's a symbolic language within would be uh a a word to denote anything that is more spiritual or subtler or subjective and the external aspect would be the physical plane that we see so just as when we move our hand the motion began in Consciousness first as a thought as an intention and from the thought it was transmitted through the brain to the arm and then we have the physical move movement in a similar way the manifestation of the universe is explained as coming from an inner movement which eventually produces the physical processes so when in science we talk about the Big Bang as being the beginning of the universe from a theosophical point of view is the beginning of the universe or on the physical level but this big bang was the the the the last chain of causes in in in a chain that comes from the inner PLS the occult teaching says nothing is created but is only transformed nothing can manifest itself in this universe from a globe down to a vague rapid thought that was not in the universe already everything on the subjective plane is an eternal is as everything on the object Ive plane is an ever becoming because because transitory this means in effect that everything in the cosmos and the cosmos itself exists already before it becomes so this is another important idea on the the ultimate plane let's say on the subjective plane and subjective used only as to make a difference from the objective plane that we perceive through our senses on the ultimate plane everything is for all eternity not only philosophically but also at the level of Consciousness many Mystics that have attained some kind of perception on this plane they talk about the Eternal now a a state a a dimension in where everything is at the same moment of course that cannot be conceived by our mind which is which the the the workings of our mind is based on continuity and um sucession of moments within time that we cannot understand how something can be always present in an eternal present uh and and yet being on the on the external plane being in a process of becoming of developing but the idea is that the the whole universe if we talk it in a more religious way in a more symbolical way we would say the whole universe is already there in the universal mind now when that universe or that idea that Divine idea has to manifest on the lower planes that takes time from a certain point of view we could say when let's say an artist has an inspiration an Insight or even a scientist you know has an Insight in which he understands something the whole idea is already there but once he has to put it in more material means be in this in a painting sculpture or in a a series of formula you know I think the the theory of relativity by Einstein took like 30 pages of formula or or something like that so when you have to to express it on the physical plane you you need time you need a succession of of actions in order to show there something that is contained in a sing Single idea so that that is an example or an analogy uh that we can use to understand to some extent this idea and it adds like a DVD contains the whole movie MH exactly we we can think of those things also and then but then to show the movie you need time to to develop it this is also something that Plato talked about in a different way he said everything that is ever possible in the universe already exists in the Universal Mind as a possibility otherwise it could not uh come into being so there is fire because that that is a possibility in the universe uh and in the same way even things that we human beings invent uh are can can be invented because they they exist as a possibility already in the universe so from this point of view the the ultimate the the Eternal the this absolute realm is the real one and then the Physical Realm in which all this unfolds gradually is an is more of an illusion it's like the drama in which you express something that was always there the emergence of a universe from the plane of subjectivity into the plane of objectivity is the theme of an important explanatory passage in the key theosophy but who is it that creates each time the universe no one creates it science would call the process Evolution the pre-christian philosophers and the orientalists call it amination so there is this idea of intelligent design versus blind Evolution uh whether there is a Creator or everything is the result of random and mechanical loss The theosophical View proposes a middle ground between the two uh the idea is that there is an intelligence in the universe there is order in the universe at the level of what we can perceive there even seem to be a purpose for things to happen but this does not really imply one particular entity one particular Creator the whole universe itself is a creative conscious Act without that implying a limited Creator so when we talk about Evolution if we add in in this process of evolution an abstract sense of intelligence order purpose then we can get closer to the theosophical idea uh as blaski talks about the before Darwin you know Darwin proposed the theory of evolution um about 20 years less than 20 years before the TS was founded and this is why blaski could use the word Evolution but be the the earlier philosoph philosophers would talk about emanation a process of of unfolding of whatever is there are in seed in the Divine mind to uh become something physical that can be perceived by us and they call that [Music] emanation we ulst and theosophist see in it the only Universal and eternal reality casting a periodical reflection of itself on the infinite spatial depths this reflection which you regard as the objective material Universe we consider as a temporary illusion and nothing else that alone which is eternal is real so here you have the the idea of the the world being a reflection of the real and this is you know an interesting symbol or metaphor because the the idea here is that there is there is something that is always real and something that being reflected just like the for example the Moon that is reflected on a lake you have the Moon that is uh immutable always there relatively speaking you have the lake and the water that that is constantly moving changing and the reflection of the moon on the water produces different you know lights and and Sparks so in a similar way there is an absolute reality that is reflected in space in what we know as the physical universe so when talking about discovering truth we the the implication of this is that we need to try to search for the source rather than the reflection and this is even a scientific fact you know when when as I explained in in some other occasions when we see a color what is coming through our our eyes is not anything that can be called color it's just certain photons with a a a certain level of energy that goes through our eyes and through and produces some chemical reactions electrochemical reactions that our brain interprets as blue that blue is the appearance of whatever came whatever the reality is even we we cannot even know what a photon is because you know we think of it as a particle but in quantum physics particles doesn't don't really exist is as we know is at the same time a wave it is a particle is none of them so there is a reality which is beyond what our senses can or is different from what our senses can present to us and then there is the appearance that our pre senses choose um an example of this could be a you know there is there there is a line scientific research in in neurobiology that says the brain has evolved not to show us the reality of things but to hide the reality and to present to us some kind of symbolic reality and the example often given is the what you see on a computer you have a file that has you know it's a document that has your writing there so you see a little square on the screen does it mean that the information that you have there is square with those colors with those letters that is somehow embedded in the in the screen no the the information are these things that we call the ones and zeros which are actually ways in which electricity work and then the the software generates a symbol for you to be able to manage the files for example so they say the brain is doing the same the brain generates a symbol out of reality so that we can handle reality and survive you know as as a biological entity so the brain is there to hide reality not to present it to us and this is a very spiritual concept because of course from the scientific point of view there is no perception Beyond The Brain from a spiritual point of view there is perception beyond the brain and that is to awaken to this perception is the aim of the spiritual life the universe passes out of its homogeneous subjectivity onto the first plane of manifestation of which planes there are seven we are taught with each plane it becomes more dense and material until it reaches this our plane the key theosophy this process may be regarded Ana anal analogously as a gradual densification of the spiritual into the material as water vapor is condensed into ice so this is a way to try again remember we are talking about higher realities with words that were created to describe the physical reality so everything we say is symbolic so you from a material point of view we could think of this densification this process of manifestation from the sub subjective to the objective as a process of densification of the primordial substance if you enter a room there is vapor water vapor there are in in the room but you may not see it if if there is you know the humidity the moist in the air is water in suspension that we cannot see if you cool down the room then that that uh Vapor begins to um cre or or to solidify in what we call water and then if you cool the room more then that becomes crystallized in ice so all that happened there is a a change of how things appear to us us although the substance is always the same so in a similar way the different ples are explained to be densifications of the primordial substance and not really different substances the universe comes into being from within outwards it exists on different levels in the inner worlds from the worlds of ideation it proceeds as archetypes becoming more and more defined and substantial as it passes down now as prototypes through the formative planes finally it is projected into objectivity on the physical level in the forms we know so here we have a more philosophical explanation of this there are three levels that Jeffrey is talking about here archetypes prototypes and forms so the archetypes from a platonic point of of you not so much archetypes as you would use them archetypes in the platonic sense are this ideas uh that that are are not really concrete are things that are are Beyond any they are Universal they are Beyond any specificity however they are the basis for any manifestation so for example if I if I say a triangle and you don't picture any triangle in your mind any in particular you understand the abstract concept of a triangle now if I ask you to to think of one particular triangle you will think of a shape in particular now the abstract concept of triangle would apply to any possible triangle but the specific concrete concept of triangle the image that you made would apply only to to that one and not to others so archetypes are like these abstract ideas which in the the view of Plato and the theosophical view are not simple ideas but they are some how reality is on the inner planes then as the planes become more and more concrete those archetypes become the prototypes which is like the seeds of forms and then when we get to the to the physical plane we have the actual forms so there is a process of concretization if we want to call it that way from the universal to the the particular so here we we have three words that blasi uses in the secret Doctrine these three levels she said that there is that which is which is ever existing which is the absolute reality whether there are forms or there aren't whether there is a universe or not the absolute reality is always the same always there the source of everything and the place to which everything comes back now this absolute reality in its first movement becomes what blaski called the pre-existing this is an unmanifest reality which will in time become the phenomenal the the the the form the world of Illusion so again comparing this to how our mind works the ever existing the absolute reality would be like a quiet mind a silent mind a silent mind has the potentiality of holding any possible idea any possible idea can take place in a quiet mind now when a particular idea appears now we have the seed of something that will be expressed in in a particular action later on that seed that thought would be the pre-existing that is not yet manifested at the level of actions and then lastly we have the phenomenal which is the actual action suppose that the the idea was to get up and and do something first first there is a quiet mind then there is the idea coming into the mind is not yet manifested and finally it manifests as an action so in a similar way there are these three levels in the universe too now so that was regarding this idea of manifestation of exteriorization from the inner to the outer let's see now the third idea that Jeffrey faring talks about the periodicity or or or alternation of of manifestation law of Cycles the process of manifestation is cyclical All Things Come and Go In Due season governed by those laws that are aspects of the one universal law the secret Doctrine speaks of The Eternity of the universe and Toto as a boundless plane periodically the playground of numberless universes incessantly manifesting and disappearing called the manifesting stars and the Sparks of Eternity the appearance and disappearance of world is a regular title e flux and reflux in the theosophical view this process of manifestation doesn't happens doesn't happen once in the history in history you know like the big bang in science is supposed to have happened a few billion years ago and and at some point it will come to an end but in the current view most of the theories scientific theories about this the idea is that the Universe in some way or the other will disappear not to reappear again although there are some new theories that are postulating a a cyclical Universe where the process of manifest or or the process of evolution of the universe uh comes in a with a with a in a certain period of time there is the big bang There is a development there is a dissolution of the universe to begin again all over again this is the particular theory that that the the theosophical teachings propose that everything that happens in the universe cyclical and uh um all in the the background of something that is eternal so if you see how blaski explains this she's before talking about this cyclical aspect she talks about that the Universe in its totality as a hold is eternal it's a boundless plane and then within that boundless eternally mutable plane there are periodically numberless universes so we the cyclical movement within something that is eternal yes go ahead what's the relationship of this with the fact that all all energy and all uh matter is composed of vibrations which are made out of sine waves which is nothing more than you know appearing and dis disappearing uh you know vibration I mean it's everything is always appearing and disappearing very rapidly all the time what's the relationship of that basic uh thing with this law of Cycles yes we we are going to see a little about that um the idea is that there is a a certain kind of vibration that by its very nature does not produce forms so when the universe is in this state of rest of dissolution of no form there is always this vibration which blaski calls is a kind of absolute abstract vibration by by the very nature of this vibration matter or the the primordial substance which is the vibration itself because at that level there is no separation but by the very the very quality of that vibration this does not Co coagulate if we want to call it that way into what we could call particles now at some point responding to this cyclical law which is not something external but is intrinsic in the in the nature of this vibration the vibration changes and now it allows that vibration to begin to appear as atoms and by atoms I don't mean the the atoms of of science but the ultimate atoms so in the theosophical view there is only vibration and whether there is a universe or not depends on how I I don't know if I would say like the rhythm of that vibration or or or how that vibration is operating in Hinduism there is similar idea put in a different way the idea is that we have this this idea of the gas of nature these three qualities of nature the quality of inertia the quality of uh activity the quality of equilibrium which when the universe is in a state of rest they are in in balance with each other there no Guna is particular ularly predominant and then manifestation begins when that balance is broken so it's a little little different way of looking at this um this is in the theosophical view this process of creation and dissolution is constantly happening this idea of the conservation of mass and energy at least the way I understand the the theosophical let's say or the occult science as plasi try to explain it it's only an appearance it is the matter and energy are constantly appearing and disappearing and then when you measure it it seems that it's always the same but the the fact from a theosophical point of view seems to be that this process is constantly going on so we we'll see a little of that I don't know if this respon answers completely to your question but that's you know what I can say about it this second assertion of the secret Doctrine is the absolute universality of that law of periodicity of flux and reflux eban flow which physical science has observed and recorded in all Departments of nature an alternation such as that of day and night life and death sleeping and waking in a fact so common so perfectly Universal and without exception that it is easy to to comprehend that in it we see one of the absolutely fundamental laws of the universe so this is um part of the the idea that Cycles rule the universe the the whole universe in many ways the active period of phenomenal existence man ventara Expresses in the time space world the possibilities impressed into the dorcy OR non-existence of new human being praya the active power the perpetual motion of the great breath only awakens Cosmos at the dawn of every new period by means of the two contrary forces causing it to become objective on the plane of Illusion in other words that dual motion transfers Cosmos from the plane of the Eternal ideal into that of finite manifestation or from the numino to the phenomenal plane so here is what what I was mentioning blaski says that one of the aspects of the absolute is this perpetual motion of the great breath she says there is even in praya praya is a Sanskrit word that means dissolution and manvantara is the Sanskrit word used for the periods of activity when there is a cosmos going on so this uh even in praya there is this perpetual motion the absolute abstract motion Blas you would call it which as long as it it remains as this absolute motion it doesn't produce any form but at some point that absolute motion polarizes itself as she says in two contrary forces and Blas he said in a footnote on the physical plane this would be like the centripedal and centrifugal forces or or you know the positive and negative but in some way that that absolute abstract motion polarizes itself in two in two forces and that produces the Awakening of a new Cosmos and uh with this Awakening then the absolute reality begins to be expressed in a conditioned form in in an infinite variety of forms in what we know as the the [Music] cosmos all potentialities all the capability of Life are here present involved during early earlier cycles of manifestation and now to be evolved during the present one the cyclic process has no conceivable beginning or imaginable end yet each recurrent cycle evinces a progressive March toward a higher life so yes we could see this like particles and anti particles I'm not sure for what I've seen in science there seems to be a lack of balance there there seem it seems that most of the universe is made of particles and there are relatively less uh anti particles um but some scientists have a trouble with this because they have the the intuition that there has to be a symmetry where all kinds of particles should have their own anti particles and have it the same proportion uh but something like that must happen that produces the universe there has to be even with electricity we have the neutral atom in which the positive and negative charges are are in balance in a state of balance and then nothing happens but as soon as you separate the two then you generate a difference of the the potential that is there that manifests as electricity so you need to break the balance you need to break the evenness of of that first vibration and then that produces a duality and it is The Duality the one that propels the manifestation of the universe this is why blaski always said Duality pervades manifestation even though the reality is a non-dual reality whenever you are caught up in the perception of conditioned forms you are caught up in The Duality that's how the universe appears uh to us now this cyclic process that laas is describing has a particular quality which is this Progressive March towards a higher life so when we see this process we see that there seems to be a a movement towards what we conceive as Perfection or or higher or more accomplished so this is a an attached an idea that is attached to the concept of manifestation and and cyclicity which is the idea of evolution Evolution moreover the secret Doctrine teaches the obligatory pilgrimage for every soul through the cycle of incarnation or necessity in accordance with cyclic and karmic law during the whole term in other words no purely spiritual booty Divine Soul can have an independent conscious existence before the spark acquired individuality so now we are coming more to the um the idea of of a human being you know from the cosmic point of view it we are talking about the Divine Soul the Divine spark in in people blaski says that these Souls whatever you know we we mean by the souls have to undergo an obligatory pilgrimage is a cycle of necessity which is the cycle of incarnation and that that Incarnation this process of incarnation of embodiment this process of the unembodied Consciousness to become or to express itself through a form happens Accord in accordance with this the cyclic cyclic law and the karmic law now she says that in order to have an independent conscious existence this Divine spk has to acquire individuality and this is part of the the process or the aim of evolution on the lower planes we have a universal Consciousness which is not really Consciousness we call it Consciousness because we have that word but the universal Consciousness is not conscious in the sense of the kind of dual experience that we have you know imagine if you are the home there is nothing outside of yourself there there is nothing different from yourself so there is nothing that you can perceive we always perceive whatever is outside of ourselves or whatever is different from ourselves you have to have a difference between the P the The Entity that perceives and whatever is being perceived so when we are talking about Unity there is no consciousness as we as we know it there is a it is a perfect State you know normally we think or there is no consciousness there is imperfect you know perfect and imperfect these are mental Concepts but there that state in itself is a is a state you know of spontaneous Perfection but in the process of evolution there seems to be a a movement towards an awareness of that intrinsic perception and the first step necessary to generate this awareness of the intrinsic perception or Perfection is to generate an individuality a conscious entity that separates itself from the rest and generates the idea I am I am myself so to generate Consciousness we need to generate first the idea of I am myself the idea of individuality so this is attained first by natural impulse and then by self-induced and self-devised efforts checked by its karma thus ascending through all the degrees of intelligence the pivotal doctrine of the esoteric philosophy admits no privileges or special gifts in man save those one by his own ego through personal effort and Merit throughout a long series of metam psychosis and reincarnations so this individuality is first are attained by natural impulse we see that animals and plants and and minerals they all live a natural life there there seems to be particular individual volution of course there is an an individual Consciousness but animals seem to have this innate intelligence wisdom that is what we call instinct and evolution brings Consciousness that is evolving through these kingdoms naturally to the point of what we call human consciousness now when Consciousness acquires this human quality this human State then it is expelled from the Garden of Eden if we talk about this in a symbolic way Adam and Eve were there in the Garden of e Eden and they didn't have to take care of themselves they they had everything there there was no pain there was no suffering they weren't even aware of themselves which is symbolized by the fact that only after they eat from the fruit of the knowledge of Good and Evil they realize they are they are naked that is a symbol for the acquisition of self-awareness self-consciousness now once they develop this self-awareness they are expelled from the Garden of Eden and now God says now you will suffer and make suffer you would have to toil and work and do this and that so this is a symbolic way of speaking referring to what we call a human being so the esoteric philosophy says that once Consciousness is in the state of of a human being then comes the stage of effort of personal um personal like like what she says here self-induced and self devised effort uh of personal effort and the the requirement or or the production of Merit what this means is that the human stage is a stage where this sense of I am this has to be worked out and through that Center in particular so for a while there is this this idea that I am myself I have to make things happen as we grow closer and closer to the end of human evolution then that sense of personal agency of being the agent the the one that acts begins to fade and uh you know when blaski explains higher forms of life like those in among the Angels or the dasas they don't have this sense of agency that we do because Consciousness has moved past it but the sense of agency and the concentration of of the Universal Mind through an individual mind are necessary to produce a very refined sense of of self-awareness a very refined sense of being so basic basically what blaski says is that while Consciousness is in the human Kingdom there there is this cause and effect there is this creation of karmic causes and the reaping of results and as we transcend the idea of agency then the personal Karma that we know of also begins to fade you know animals are angels they don't they don't produce Karma as we do there is a more Cosmic General karma for them it is us with the sense of I am the doer that generate this Karma but that is necessary in the process of evolution and until we begin to understand that we are the universal working through the individual now she talks that this happens through a series of metm psychosis and reincarnations and Jeffrey Faron will explain something about this metam psychosis adds an important element to the idea of reincarnation repeated life experiences do not of themselves imply Soul growth the addition of the term metam psychosis shows that the significance of reincarnation lies not in the fact of the re reassumed of a human personality by the ego but in the sole growth the development of the faculty that is affected by each such return repetition without progress has little value each new opportunity of Earth life offers the conditions for a further flowering of the potentialities of the ego ego so the there these two words are talking about the same process from different points of view reincarnation uh the word the the the word Carnation comes from car which means body in Latin so reincarnation is the the repeated embodiment of something now metan psychosis comes from Psych psyche is the soul in Greek and metan psyche it means a a repeated transformation of that psyche or of that Soul or a a a come going uh you know from here to there of that Soul so metm psychosis talks more about the soul reincarnation talks more about the body now the idea in metm psychosis is is interpreted to be more about the transformations in Consciousness so not only Consciousness has repeated experiences through a body that's The Reincarnation part but also it is necessary that Consciousness transforms itself through the experience of being incarnated when these two things happen then Evolution happens so the the embodied experience when Consciousness is awakened produces a a change in the understanding perception in the realization of Consciousness which can be uh understood or or interpreted as this metm psychosis these changes in Consciousness the two together are necessary for the soul which in theosophy is frequently called the ego ego from the Greek that see that means eyess the source of the sense of eyess so these two things are necessary for the soul to evolve so here we have a summary of the the points that he has made so far in this this idea of the origin of the universe you have a single Timeless source for everything we see this this source is Beyond Time Beyond Evolution Beyond change change then you have manifestation which is a temporary illusion it's a reflection of this eternal Source in the realm of time and space now this manifestation happens spontanously meaning not by means of a Creator it happens because of the very nature of the absolute reality it it cyclically it shows its absolute or its relative um aspects naturally because of the very the very nature of the absolute reality so this happens spontaneously in a cyclic Manner and that manifestation shows what we call an evolutionary tendency there is this gradual process of reflecting the the the absolute reality in a in a more and more accurate accurate way uh it it's something that this this absolute reality that does not reflect itself on the physical plane in the most perfect possible way all of a sudden you know in in the the idea of Creation in the Christian world we have this idea that that God created the world already the way it is animals human beings already the way the way they are the theosophical view says that that's not how this works everything in the universe shows itself in a progressive movement from the simple towards the complex in actually in science there is this idea of or the it's difficult to explain why life has EV evolved in such a complex form as a human being because from the scientific point of view what life is seeking is the you know preservation and the continuation of the genes for example now bacteria are very efficient very successful in doing this there seems to be no reason why life should evolve beyond the bacteria they are more successful than we are in in passing on genes so why did life develop more and more complexity there there is no EX explanation for that from the theosophical point of view the the Perfection of Consciousness can only express itself through a complex enough form and that complex enough form can only develop gradually from the simple to the complex there is no creation from nothing everything evolves from the one single element therefore everything has to evolve from the simple to the complex and then from the complex back to the simple so that that the the process that was generated by the the complexity is now simplified to return to the source but now with the fruit of that process of evolution which is this awareness so that's more or less these are the some principles that rule how the universe is is gener at and and how it works so to finish let's see a few points about the the the human origin and evolution of this um or or within the context of the universe human evolution the two aspects into which the subject of origination may usefully be divided for purposes of study are Cosmos and man yet all to although though they must they may be studied separately the student is warned against allowing himself to regard them as two unrelated Fields let us study man therefore but if we separate him from one moment for one moment from the universal whole or view him in isolation we shall either land in black magic or fail most ingloriously in our attempt so the human being is a reflection of the cosmos is the cosmos itself expressing through the human form and uh we are not different from it and the cosmos is in the human being you know you you can see from the two points of view you can say human beings are just the the expression of the cosmos or uh you can say that the the cosmos is the the the model of the human being so the two things are the same and when we try to understand what a human being is from an esoteric point of view we can never separate him or her from the totality which is what we really are man's Origins reflect the cosmic process his higher spiritual principles arise in the formless plains of being his lower ones reflect the lower quinary of manifested existence taking physical form during his life on Earth the origins of his inner principles as of everything else are to be sought in the primordial substance that comes into being with the polarization of the one element and its differentiation into the primary elements so here again we have the idea of the one element that polarizes and produces this reflection that we call the the universe and this all the different aspects of the human being these inner principles that she's talking about come from this one element they are they are a reflection of the cosmic processes so just as the universe manifests from the absolute to the relative so a human being also manifest from the absolute aspect from the spirit to the body we normally see human beings the other way around we think we are the body which may or may not have a spiritual nature now what we were talking about that the cosmos develops from within without means in this hierarchical way of seeing like the inner is more real than the outer that means that our body may or may not be there our body is an accident what we really are is the inner principles so this is an important part of the understanding blaski says that in early Humanity when people or Humanity had Humanity in its infancy had these teachers instructors that help Humanity grow all these teachings were there and uh for example the idea that the the body is a is of of value because it's an expression of Consciousness was common but as Humanity develop developed the mind and the the uh the the free thinking and the independent thinking it began to reject the ancient traditions and began to say we know better all these sent Traditions were myths not too different from what teenagers do regarding what the parents say you know when teenagers are children they take for granted what what parents say but then comes the time where in the in the search for individuality they reject all that and they say I know better so in a similar way all these teachings are lost and this idea that the body is valuable because it is an expression of the spirit is lost and then the body begins to be worshiped as a value in itself which is what happens in our in our culture many people are vegetarian and are so-called spiritual and uh you know go to yoga because they want to have a healthy body why just because the healthy body itself is a value to have a a nice looking you know healthy body is all that matters the spiritual approach would be I need a healthy body because it is through a healthy body that I I can have this experience and realize truth you know you you you realize that the body is an instrument is a means and not the end so this is what happens what blaski said in the in the previous uh quote if we forget that the the the human being is a reflection of the cosmos if we forget that the body is a vehicle of the spirit if forgetting this we start paying attention exclusively on human beings exclusively on the on the body either we won't be able to understand who we really are or we will fall into black magic this fall into black magic means that we we begin to be self-centered self-serving and that we begin to use all our powers to benefit the the human being as opposed to the to the cosmos or to benefit the the body uh to the detriment of the spirit blaski used to say that science as it was developing in the 19th century in many aspects was working unconsciously towards black magic and she used that word in a in a wide sense she would say that all the the effect that we are having against the the environment is part of black magic is using the forces of the of our intellect and everything that the intellect can create to benefit Humanity as isolated as separate from the whole world around and that produces all the suffering that that this produces you know that we are destroying the planet so she talked several times about the necessity of realizing that we are not separate or isolated from the whole and that will always keep you with the right perspective the story of the Genesis of man as we now see him is understandable in terms of his occult Constitution he is a Sevenfold entity his seven principles represented by the three aspects of the spirit or monad soul and body always we must keep in mind that central element of evolutionary law from within outwards as it operates in the cosmos so it operates in man so according to this principle the spirit or monad is what we really are is what is eternal is the ever existing then the Soul is that pre-existing reality before we are born after we we die the soul exists there the soul is already outside of the realm of the absolute of the absolute Unity the soul is an individuality within that Unity so it's not the the ever existing absolute reality it's more the individual pre-existing reality and the body would be the the phenomena the external form so this as we explained for the universe also applies to us when we live most of our attention is placed at the level of the body and by Body we also imply emotions and our our mind which is the phenomena which is the external which is something that will end and what theosophy is trying to to encourage in US is that we start paying attention to the soul and the soul in the context not only as an individual soul but in the context of the universal Spirit of the Mona so I think we can we can uh stop here um for for today let's see what Deborah says what what a unique way to view black magic yes the the idea of black magic is again similar you you have the white magic that would be you know the the idea of Magic first from an esoteric point of view is the manipulation of the forces of nature so there are not only physical forces there are also psychic forces and spiritual forces well the spiritual forces cannot really be manipulated but the psychic and the physical can be manipulated in one way or the other so black magic normally appli to the manipulation especially of psychic forces for selfish purposes now the manipulation of physical forces for selfish purposes is the same kind of attitude so you can extend the concept even to the Physical Realm and you could say that people who abuse their of their money they are power they are doing black magic they are using this this uh skill this Consciousness this intelligence which is a cosmic Force which is which is meant to benefit the whole they are using it to benefit the part again they forget they are part of the whole they are self-centered and they they try to benefit the part to the detriment of the whole and that is black magic the the reason is selfishness exactly so blaski also talked about this in between space of gray magic yeah we can we can call it that way um these are all just concepts for us to to have a certain a certain understanding you can say that whenever you are acting in a selfish way you are on the on the side you know going in the direction of of black magic or whenever you are working more altruistically you are going to the side of the white magic uh how far you are going to the extreme will depend you know how dark or how grayish that may be if we want to put it that way uh of course there is a certain amount of mistakes that we make just because we don't know anything better and that wouldn't be even if we are selfish out of ignorance you know or to that extent it's not that we are consciously manipulating the forces of the universe that's just an inherent result from the state your state of evolution but most of us know better many things and yet we may decide to do the selfish thing and at that point we are Miss using the powers of nature we think my intelligence is mine the money that I I work to to make his M the time that I have is mine that all is part of the illusion that all is part of thinking that I myself um independent and separate from the whole that is what blasi said the moment we separate the individual from the whole either or or both we are not going to understand what the individual really is because it's just an expression of the whole and we will become selfish we will turn into the the the black magic any other question or or comment about this all right um if there is nothing else I'll send a um we'll send an email with the link to the recording thank you for being here for participating and I hope I we'll see you next week and thank you Michelle for your help you're welcome good night good night
